THOSE who didn't go to the eighth-grade orchestra and band concert missed a great performance. All three groups were great. The music program at this school is great, the teachers are fantastic. The school board needs to see about getting these groups more music stands. The music program is fantastic, I would suggest putting money into programs that are successful and not things that might be useful. The students are at school for an education. I don't see how having a football stadium is necessary. Get the children some textbooks. As it is there aren't enough to go around. Please, school board, let's get our priorities straight.
PAY attention, Congress. The country is angry. You won't listen to constituents. You won't do what we want. A software engineer furious with the Internal Revenue Service plowed his small plane into an office building housing nearly 200 federal tax employees.
HAS columnist Mona Charen turned into a peacenik? President Obama has essentially followed and expanded the policies of George W. Bush in dealing with terrorism and expanded on them with great success. For example, we recently captured the top Taliban leader and are making great progress in an attack on a Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan. I'll give Charen a break and say that her ongoing criticism of the president's foreign policy on terrorism has led her to erupt in a very understandable outpouring of verbal sour grapes.
IF tickets were given and revenue collected for speeding on Mount Auburn Road, the amount collected would wipe out our federal deficit and make significant inroads into the overall U.S. debt.
TO the person who commented about being a peculiar person: I'm still with my first wife, 49 1/2 years. We worship and pray together. King James Bible 1 Peter 2:9 says, "We are a peculiar people." Be proud of it.
JUDGE Judy Sheindlin wrote a book some years ago called "Don't Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It's Raining." A modern-day version of that would be "Don't Snow on My Head and Tell Me It's Global Warming."
SO they found what killed King Tut. Who cares? All the money that was spent doing all that testing could have been used for something that would benefit people now. This was a complete waste of money.
ACCORDING to my son, who is a Central Middle School sixth-grader, some teachers spend a lot of class time talking about their religious beliefs, sometimes criticizing the tenets of other religions. One in particular called the customs of a major non-Christian religion "silly" during a social studies lesson but a few days later was proudly discussing Adam and Eve in class, as if that wasn't silly enough. Teachers, stick to the curriculum. Religion should be left to the churches.
I get so disgusted by talk of cutting Medicare and Social Security. What are we going to do if Social Security is cut? If the government would had kept its hands out of the Social Security money in the first place, Social Security would still have enough to pay out for quite a few years.
THERE are people who live in the city and like to feed the deer. If you like to watch deer, move out to the country or take country drives or become a hunter. People who live in the city and feed the deer are creating a problem. They are putting people's lives in jeopardy. Until you've seen a deer flip up on a little car, you really don't know the extent of the damage it can cause.
WHY is it that so many Tea Party right-wingers are lambasting the Obama and Democratic economic recovery plan while taking the money for projects in their districts and taking the credit when the money comes? It seems a little hypocritical. Either you are for it or against it. If you are against it, you shouldn't take the money while you are complaining about the money being available for you to take.
I am an elderly woman who wishes to thank a delightful young man for his help at a car wash. I was holding up a long line of cars and was embarrassed and flabbergasted. He helped me every way he knew. Thank you, young man.
I had reservations, made a week in advance, for Valentine's night at a local restaurant. The restaurant canceled our reservations at the last minute without any explanation at all. It was so late that we were not able to get reservations at another nice dining place. Try explaining that to your wife, who had gone to a lot of trouble to prepare for this special night out by buying a new dress and going to the salon for a hairstyling. What a letdown. We will remember this when we are making reservations at a nice restaurant.
REGARDING the speeding on Mount Auburn Road: 20 mph in a construction area means 20 mph. It doesn't mean 50 to 60 mph. Something needs to be done about the speeding on Mount Auburn.
THE quote by a member of the Obama administration concerning terror strikes has been misquoted by conservatives. What was actually said was, "There is a 100 percent chance there will be an attempted terrorist attack against the United States."
SO now it's rural against urban. Don't you conservatives ever tire of division and dissent?
THANK you for printing Aaron Horrell's picture and article each week about nature and the things he finds there. It's very interesting and enlightening. It's something I look forward to every week.
I'M glad Cape Girardeau is tightening its zoning code. A well-planned city that relies upon and enforces it zoning codes is a better city in many ways. Let's hope future city councils do not water down what has been accomplished with these latest upgrades. A code is only as good as those who stick to it.
