I'VE noticed that even the Southeast Missourian has jumped on the political correctness bandwagon by calling the swine flu H1N1, even though it did begin with a pig. You guys deserve a political-correctness prize.
IF a health care bill passes with an opt-out public option and Missouri opts out, then I will opt out of Missouri. I will move to a safer and healthier environment.
WHY the uproar over Sarah Palin? It seems that her message is either received with fear or joy, depending on the recipient. Is it because she springs from an ordinary, nonelite background? Is it because she was unafraid to confront corruption within the Republican Party in Alaska? Perhaps the real reason for her attractiveness to her supporters can be found in just three words: uncontaminated by Washington.
EIGHTEEN years ago the move by Southeast Missouri State University to Division I was made strictly for the money. Now the university and its supporters must bear the embarrassment each season of another losing team. How much has that cost? If Tony Samuel is going to be replaced, I would like to know where to apply for his vacated position. I can guarantee another losing season and do it for half his salary. That way there will be no illusions of winning followed by disappointment, and Southeast would be saving thousands.
I'M opposed to giving terrorists a nonmilitary trial. They are not American citizens. They are not even prisoners of war. They were caught fighting our soldiers without a uniform. That makes them eligible for immediate execution without a trial. They should be tried by a military tribunal. If we give them a jury trial, the jury could be vulnerable to terrorist retaliation.
I sure hope the person who thinks our young people are being turned into beggars never needs charity. Don't think you're too good to turn into one of those people.
