Time to help

DAVID LIMBAUGH has the ear of so many important people in our country. Granted, his view are far right of center, but they are often seriously considered by many moderates in the Republican Party. And I believe his strong Christian beliefs are real. What is Limbaugh going to do now? Stick with the "us and them" theme? I'm not suggesting he change his political beliefs, I'm just suggesting that he help. What would our country be like if all the persuasive and talented Limbaughs, Olbermanns, Hannitys and Maddows were not working 12 hours a day on splitting us apart but in fact were seriously trying to make our country a better and more inclusive place? It's our country and our president. Be helpful.

Decent plays

I DISAGREE with Jane Stephens, provost of Southeast Missouri State University. Art most certainly does not have to be controversial. There are plenty of good, decent Christian plays. Why doesn't the theater department pick stuff that will appeal to us here in Southeast Missouri like "Our Town" and "Meet Me in St. Louis" and "Greater Tuna." Let the paying public decide which shows we want to see.

Tight purse strings

THE SAME day the city of Cape Girardeau announces no cost-of-living raises, there is a call for comments on renovations to a parking lot downtown. Apparently the city would like to spend tens of thousands of dollars to buy more land and pave, light and install ADA restrooms. One would ask why, if the city is so broke. Pull in the purse strings and throw a little chat down and set up a portable toilet.
