I am a parent of a daughter at Southeast Missouri State University and I attended family weekend. The festival atmosphere was just very well done. Everything was decorated very nicely and we had a great time. I want to thank the department that put that on. It was a very nice way to spend our day with our daughter.
Thank you, city of Cape Girardeau, for upgrading Broadway up to the beautiful extent that it is today. I enjoy driving down Broadway and showing it off to visitors for the first time ever. Thank you so much for a beautiful pedestrian-friendly street.
Both of our presidential candidates say they understand what the middle class is going through. Everything is going up except our monthly income, yet they are spending millions and millions on campaigns. There is something wrong with that picture.
When is Cape ever going to fix that bridge on Lexington and Kingshighway; that's a big bump that's been there for over a month? I wish they'd get that fixed. It's a big bump for your car to be taking an impact.
Underage drinking should be a focus of law enforcement, but we should reconsider the age limit. It's ridiculous to keep the minimum age at 21. By the time I turned 21, I was already a military veteran and had a job where I was responsible for other peoples' lives. Among countries where alcohol is legal, America is the only one to have such a restrictive limit. Aligning the minimum drinking age with adulthood is reasonable.
I have been neutral on the issue of urban deer hunting in Cape. After reading the Speak Out comment titled "Urban deer" in which the author attempts to insult Cape Girardeau residents who are opposed to deer hunting in the city limits, I have changed my mind and will now actively oppose the urban deer hunt. Thank you for making up my mind.
I did not vote for Obama, but I have a serious question for Romney. The 47 percent you talk about, does that include dependents who live in their parents' homes? Does it include veterans who are disabled and cannot take care of themselves? Does it include veterans who are living with their families who have to take care of them? You should be concerned with the common good of everyone in the United States, not just the 53 percent.
Seems Obama compared himself to entertainers saying they always perform well. He couldn't say the same for himself regarding his flawed debate performance. In reality, he has had a lot of bad days and performances that we have to suffer for. We really need a President that is effective every day.
I've been a union man for most of my working life, but there's no way I can vote for Obama, who's going to shut down 200 more coal-fired power plants and put thousands of coal miners out of work. And I certainly hope our unions will not endorse him. He is detrimental to the union causes, even though he says he's all for unions.
I feel sorry for Gov. Romney. Not only is he running against President Obama and the Democrats, he's running against CBS, NBC and ABC. They don't say anything good about him, and they certainly don't say anything bad about Obama. He is fighting an uphill battle, and I think it's outrageous that the news organizations that are supposed to be impartial are very partial to this president.
