To the editor:
I am writing to protest remarks made by Sheryl Crow, an internationally famous pop singer and songwriter who is a Kennett, Mo., native, to a national audience at the last music awards ceremony.
She said that war is never an answer and that we would experience "bad karma" if we went to war. She said that the way to prevent war is to never have enemies.
The only conclusion one can draw from her statement is that this nation is never worth fighting for. Tell that to the World War II veterans who opened the Nazi concentration camps. Out national interests and the safety of our citizens are of no consequence to Crow. A bad national leader who would deny the essentials of food and energy for his nation's children so he can develop a nuclear arsenal to blackmail us should be appeased, in Crow's view.
This hits home, because Crow is an annual performer at Southeast Missouri State University. I want to put the university on notice. If she is ever invited back, I will vote with my pocketbook and never send SEMO another check. If SEMO ceases to make her welcome, perhaps she would understand that ordinary citizens out here don't appreciate her political expertise.
