It's impressive -- the start that coach Tom Matukewicz and the Southeast Missouri State football team have had so far this season.

The team is 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference. They defeated two ranked programs in No. 3 Southeastern Louisiana and then No. 20 Tennessee State on Homecoming Weekend. It's improbable, but certainly not impossible. The team has bought in to the "brick by brick" vision and took it so far as starting a brickyard on the practice field with each brick representing a win over a Top 25 opponent.

Now it's Southeast that is ranked going into this weekend. The Redhawks will play in Murray, Kentucky, at 3 p.m. Saturday. Murray (1-4, 0-2 OVC) is not off to a good start, but anytime these two schools play there is a rivalry. Part of the reason is how fans travel to each city. It is hoped that continues on Saturday and many Southeast fans attend the game.

Congratulations to Southeast on the impressive start, but there is more work to be done. We wish the team well as they continue in this exciting season.

The next home game for Southeast is 1 p.m. Oct. 18. Make plans to attend.
