To the editor:
After reading the editorial on "Cape faces crucial spending revenue ideas," I need to express my concerns. When the tax finance committee formed, I thought the city would get whatever it wanted. How wrong I was. I became interested in the process. To my satisfaction, the committee worked very hard on getting to the essentials for the city.
The revenue from the taxpayers is needed to provide city taxpayers the services that are desired.
As for the aquatic park, I was against funding such a venture. I took a tour of the Capaha Park pool and noted the problems. I feel the pool will not last much longer. Remember, it takes approximately two years to build an aquatic park. If the Capaha Park pool goes out before an aquatic park is completed, there would be a cry to the city planners that they did not plan, and the bubble-covered pool at Central Junior High School would be crowded. I suggested to the city council that a scale model be made. The college or the career center could do this. The model could be exhibited throughout the community. By doing this, the taxpayers could see what the funds are going for. A model is much better than a flat piece of paper.
It would be better to put the funding of all the revenue needs under one vote. I believe my taxpayer funds would be used for the betterment of Cape Girardeau.
