While the name Blake Mycoskie might not ring a bell for some people, the company he founded, TOMS shoes, likely does.
Tonight students on campus and the community will have an opportunity to hear from Mycoskie when he delivers a lecture at the Show Me Center as part of the Southeast Missouri State University Speakers Series.
Called the company's chief shoe giver, Mycoskie has developed a company that not only sells a product but helps those in need with footwear. Each time a pair of TOMS shoes is purchased, the company works with giving partners to get the same kind of shoes to another person. Since its founding in 2006, the company has given more than 10 million pairs of shoes to children. More recently, the company began helping provide glasses and eye care to 150,000 people around the world.
This should be an interesting lecture. Students need to be challenged, and Mycoskie's address will likely be inspirational in nature from an entrepreneurial and philanthropic perspective.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at showmecenter.biz and the Show Me Center box office. Southeast students, faculty and staff with a valid Redhawks ID can receive a free ticket at room 202 in the University Center, the Center for Student Involvement or the Show Me Center box office, according to a news release from Southeast.
