To the editor: What a great column by Joe Sullivan about the good old days. Many of us look back to remember and wonder how we survived. How did we manage with four children to a bedroom (in the unheated, un-air-conditioned upstairs), no boxed macaroni and cheese and no frozen pizza? But we sure missed the ice man coming after we got the new Frigidaire...

What a great column by Joe Sullivan about the good old days. Many of us look back to remember and wonder how we survived.

How did we manage with four children to a bedroom (in the unheated, un-air-conditioned upstairs), no boxed macaroni and cheese and no frozen pizza? But we sure missed the ice man coming after we got the new Frigidaire.

And our grandchildren don't know what they're missing when they are sitting in front of a television set in the evenings instead of catching fireflies or playing Red Rover.

One of the greatest things back then, though, was coming home from school and most of our mothers were there with a couple of homemade cookies and real, cream-on-the-top milk.
