To the editor:
I just had to write and say how proud I was when I picked up the paper and saw the picture of Brenda Birk holding up the sign to inspire people to pray at the start of the Jackson Indians football game. I was not at the game, but I would have been happy to join them.
It was also great to see the group of tailgaters joined in prayer at the New McKendree United Methodist Church lot before the game. Way to go, Rev. Rice.
Sam Blackwell and the Southeast Missourian deserve our applause and thanks for allowing this to be front-page news. All who had any part in it are to be commended.
This great country was founded by men who had the courage to show their trust in God. We must continue to be bold for Christ and stand up for our beliefs before we lose our right to any form of public prayer or worship. We can't allow the Supreme Court to try to remove God from our lives. Think about where we would be without him.
Keep up the good work, Jackson. Who knows how many other towns will be encouraged to follow suit and continue to pray before games?
