In the March 8 issue, Rodney Bollinger of Jackson expressed he was "disappointed by the daily tabulation of no votes from ... weekly poll regarding the construction of future roundabouts" in Cape Girardeau. I continue to be amazed that people outside Cape always seem to know what is best for Cape residents. I live on Gordonville Road. Bollinger does not.

I see trucks, vans, RVs and ambulances that try to maneuver around this dysfunctional thing. KFVS-TV on Wednesday night aired a piece about the roundabout which showed an 18-wheeler attempting to make it through. It did make it through. The driver literally ran over the bricks, up over the curbs and onto the grass in order to make it through this thing. This thing is not designed for vehicles larger than automobiles.

However, there are no signs on any of the streets prior to the roundabout prohibiting ambulances, 18-wheelers, stake bed-type trucks, travel trailers in tow or motor home. It is my understanding that Silver Springs Road was extended to provide easier access to St. Francis Medical Center, William Street and businesses south. It will do this if you drive a small vehicle .
