To the editor:
Most of us are apt to be annoyed when someone is late for an appointment. I remember on one occasion a clergyman was about to announce the postponement of a wedding when suddenly the groom arrived explaining that he just couldn't find a taxi.
It is more rare to remember those occasions of those who sometimes annoyed us because they were always on time. Perhaps guests arrived before we were ready.
As children, we learned that we could not be late for school or supper. The years have taught us that this virtue of punctuality is a plus if we are to be responsible workers. It affects us all whenever bills come due, especially at tax time, or if we need to catch plane.
People are also different when it comes to assisting with a task. One of our children, when once she had agreed to help, would begin with great enthusiasm and continue cooperating until the job was completed. She wouldn't admit that she was tired or bored or really wanted to go out an play. That type of person is hard to find. There are too many quitters who give up when the job becomes difficult. The person who sticks at the task at hand until the bitter end is like the salt of the earth and is usually a success and appreciated by any employer.
Punctuality and perseverance are two qualities which we can admire in any field.
