To the editor:Remember the old saying, "What goes around comes around." Situations do repeat themselves, but not necessarily identically. Similarity seems to be emerging with the continued courting by Colin Powell of the Republican Party. I remember when Dwight Eisenhower became president. There was much feeling abroad in the country that the Republican Party was crossing the threshold to become the decidedly majority party under the leadership of such a broadly accepted, understanding president and national hero.Through the years, that dream was gradually and meticulously dissolved. With as many of Colin Powell's basic premises a virtual anathema to the driving forces of the current Republican Party and if he has any vision of bringing the party around to some amalgam of his positions, good luck, General.
