To the editor:
As a child, the only air conditioning available on a hot and humid summer night were the windows and doors. Thank God for screen doors. One evening as my mother stood at the screen door to enjoy the slight breeze, she suddenly shouted, "Ronnie, come here quick. There is a cross in the sky." I ran to the door, excited to see it. As I stood by my mom looking through the screen door, in the darkness above I observed a brilliant object in the shape of a cross. Mom took hold of my hand, and for several moments without one word spoken we enjoyed the miracle we were observing. My mother believed in miracles and taught me to believe in them as well.
"Let's go outside for a better look, Mom," I said as I opened the door. As we stood on the front porch looking toward the object we both observed as a cross, the only bright object in the evening sky was a full moon. We returned inside the house and once again looked through the screen door. And once again we witnessed our miracle of a vision of the cross. We both had a good laugh as to how we were both fooled by this illusion created by the screen door. Nevertheless, how great a moment it was as the two of us screened out every doubt and though in our minds that we were witnessing a miracle, the miracle of the cross.
The miracle of the cross upon which our Savior paid the penalty for our sins is a miracle indeed. For had our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ failed to win victory over death and sin, we would be living in a world without forgiveness.
Victory was won, and we have a reason for much joy as we celebrate the victory of the cross.
