LETTERS: DON'T BELIEVE THE LIES BEING TOLD ABOUT HANCOCK II AMENDMENT

The average taxpayer works from Jan. 1 to July 23 just to pay his taxes. The power to tax is the power to destroy. The power to tax is a redistribution of wealth.

Our government in Jefferson City always wants to increase our taxes. No amount of taxes is ever enough. In August a $250 million bond was passed which when financed will cost the taxpayers $500 million. Responsible legislators say this bond was absolutely unnecessary. With a little planning, they could have found the necessary money by cuts in wasteful spending. Most of the information in the media concerning Hancock II is simply not true. This is misinformation put out by people who have something to gain by increasing our taxes.

The Hancock II amendments states "that state support to local government will not be reduced. The state is prohibited from reducing the state finance proportion of the cost of any activity or service required of counties or other political subdivisions (schools, highways, social services, prisons, etc.)" Let's stop these endless increases in our taxes. November may be our last chance. Be informed. Don't believe the lies that are being told to scare the public from voting their conscience.
