To the editor:

How can we believe we are Christians and vote for candidates who hold anti-Christian beliefs? With moral and ethical problems taking center stage in our country's cultural and political conversation, I believe we Christians must answer the question: What would Jesus do?

Jesus, Peter, Paul and other biblical writers have given us examples of what our response should be as Christian citizens. We are told to be in the world, not separated from it and not like the world. So we are to participate in the political dialogue from a Christian perspective.

Would it be Christ-like to vote for a candidate who upholds the choice to kill unwanted children? How about a candidate who believes it is wrong to pray in public schools and before games? How about a candidate who is widely known as a liar? Or one known for sexual promiscuity?

We are called to use God's word to discern whom to vote for or what organizations to give to. Though no candidate will be perfect, we must choose the one who comes closest to advocating godliness.
