Jackson's annual Homecomers festival kicks off tonight in the city's downtown.
This Southeast Missouri summertime event brings thousands to the streets for music, rides and good family fun.
A past event that will not take place this week is the talent show. Organizers replaced the show due to a lack of interest. However, an expanded gospel performance and Senior Idol contest will be held.
A story appeared in Monday's Southeast Missourian with a schedule of events. Each is worth your consideration, but here are a few highlights:
* Welcome by Mayor Barbara Lohr at 6:30 p.m. today.
* Women's Vintage Fashion Competition from 8 to 10 p.m. today.
* Senior Idol competition from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the Gospel competition following from 8 to 10 p.m.
* Music from Mannitou and The Living Stones from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday.
* Performances from The BitterSweet Band and Old School Hype from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday.
* Senior Idol show from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. J Edwards follows from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Add in some rides and carnival food and it should make for a fun week.
We hope you take some time to enjoy the festivities. Thank you to the organizers and sponsor, the American Legion, for their involvement.
