Happy New Year! As we start a new year this is good time to look back on our progress in 2000 and look ahead to 2001 in the area of public works. As our city grows so does the need for improved infrastructure and many other public works-related projects. This months column will list some of our many accomplishments in 2000 and give you a sampling of what we hope to do in 2001. Here we go:
Accomplishments for Pubic Works- 2000
* Completed design of all State Revolving Fund drinking water projects
* Completed construction of drinking water project:
1) Ridge Road across Bent Creek to Greensferry
* Begin construction of sanitary sewer SRF project:
1) Wastewater Treatment Plant Treatment Mosolids Improvements
* Conducting electrical SCADA system installation
* Conducting West Substation upgrade
* Completed design on 34.5 kv inter-tie transmission line (secondary City feeder line)
* Begin construction on circuit 8 8c 9 4 kv to 12 kv line conversion West Substation area)
* Conducted clearing of Jackson Industrial Park site
* Constructed footbridge across Hubble Creek near high school football stadium.
* Conducted major street repair program:
1) Donna Drive
2) East Main
3) Pawnee
4) Missouri Street
* Conducted annual street overlay program:
1) Grandview Acres Subdivision
2) Missouri
3) Bast Street
*Conducted second phase of ace trimming, which covered east half of the city
* Revised Water Well Regulations*
Improved Kimbel Lane from Country Club Drive south to Warren Place Subdivision from gravel to concrete (with curb and gutter), including storm water drainage controls.
* Extended water service to Warren Place Subdivision
* Improved South Bast Street from West Adams Street south to West Jefferson Street from gravel to asphalt (first project under the revised Street Improvement Policy)
* Designed and constructed first phase of new sanitary system to serve the Klaus Park watershed area between Old Cape Road East and Matthew Street
* Projected Accomplishments for Public Works - 2001
*Begin construction of SRF Drinking Water projects:
1) Water Plant to West tower
2) West tower to Route PP Industrial Park
3) Route PP Industrial Park to Highway 25 South
4) Oak Forest & East Main Extension
* Begin construction of SRF Sanitary Sewer projects:
1) Williams (Creel: Interceptor Sewer
2) Jackson Boulevard pump station & force main
*Complete design of SRF Sanitary Sewer projects:
1) Goose Creek to E. Main Interceptor
2) Goose Creek Interceptor
3) Highway PP Interceptor
* Complete construction of Electrical Distribution projects:
1) West substation upgrade
2) 4 kv to 12 kv line conversion of circuits 7, 8 & 9
3) Power Plant substation upgrade
4) SCADA system upgrade
* Acquire easements and bid 34.5 kv inter-tie transmission unit (secondary City feeder line)
* Conduct street repair program
* Conduct annual street overlay program
* Conduct annual tree trimming, which will cover West half of the City
That is an overview summary of important Public Works projects for 2000-2001, Sometimes these improvements can seem a bit boring but they are of the utmost importance to the future of our growing City. Our Public Works related departments which include: Electric, Water, Street, Power Plant, Building and Planning, City Engineering, Sanitation, and Wastewater all completed many other pno'eds to numerous to mention. Every department had many accomplishments not listed and all have high goals for 2001.
We will continue to make great progress in the area of Public Works in Jackson this year. We also will plan for future improvements that will help our city grow in an orderly fashion.
