Tuesday's paper had an inspiring story about the rescue of animals from Dunklin County. The story gave credit for the rescue to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri. The rescue was actually conducted by the Humane Society of Missouri, which is the name of the St. Louis organization. Each humane society is an independent entity. The Humane Society of Southeast Missouri does not receive monetary support from the Humane Society of the United States nor from the Humane Society of Missouri. While both of these organizations do valuable work, persons wishing to support their local animal shelter should send their contributions directly to that shelter.
