During this time each year, Melanie and I pause and reflect on the many blessings for which we have to be thankful.

I am particularly thankful this year for the birth of our son, Branch Blunt, who has grown so fast and touched us so deeply that words cannot quite describe our love for him. Parenthood has its challenges, but the blessings and joy brought by a child reveal themselves when you hold that tiny person in your arms and realize the miraculous gift God gives through children. We are truly thankful for Branch.

I am thankful for our teachers and educators and for the work they do every day to prepare and mold tomorrow's leaders. We must continue to do more to show our teachers how much we appreciate their contribution to our children and our future.

I am thankful that I live in a free country where we can discuss and debate important issues without fear or thought of punishment, a country where opportunity abounds and dreams come true.

And I am exceedingly thankful for the men and women, past and present, who fight for that freedom selflessly and bravely.

I am thankful for America.

We will be successful.

As we celebrate this season of thanksgiving, I am thankful not only for my family and friends, but for all Missourians who help to make our state such a wonderful place to live and work.
