It's Election Day for one ward in Cape Girardeau.

Today's primary election for Ward 2 in Cape Girardeau includes three candidates who seek to serve on the city council.

* Craig David is a sales representative for ABC Supply Co. and business owner.

* Rocky Everett is CEO of Heartland Spine Institute in Cape Girardeau, owner of Annie Laurie's Antiques with his wife and a military veteran.

* Shelly Moore works as a real estate agent in Cape Girardeau.

Ward 2 includes the south side of Cape Girardeau and most of the downtown area. If you're unsure about which ward you reside in, call the county clerk's office at 243-3547. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Today's two candidates who receive the most votes will again appear on the ballot in April.

While city council races may not be the most contentious and talked about contests, the importance should not be overlooked. Many of the issues regularly covered in the Southeast Missourian are dealt with by local governments. Serving on the council is not an easy job.
