The Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force made 26 arrests in one day last month, based on an extensive investigation

Late last month the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force concluded a lengthy investigation by making 26 arrests in one day. Those arrested are accused of illegally manufacturing, possessing or dealing in methamphetamine, marijuana and cocaine.

Roundups like this one send two clear and important messages.

The first message is to those who are breaking the law.

They are reminded that law enforcement is aggressively tracking them down and that they will be caught and prosecuted. While this does not eliminate drug production and trafficking, it does make a dent in the illegal drug market.

The second message is to law-abiding citizens who are aware of drug activity in their community and wonder why the police aren't doing more to put a stop to it. Making 26 arrests in one day is a good answer.

The charges against those arrested included: possession of a controlled substance, manufacture of a controlled substance, sale of a controlled substance, distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of meth precursors with intent to manufacture. Those arrested ranged in age from the early 20s to the 50s.

Every time the drug task force makes these mass arrests, it is making it more difficult for the lawbreakers to operate in this part of the state. These efforts are making our communities considerably safer.
