To the Editor:
We wish to thank the Southeast Missourian for the nice article they put in Tuesday's paper about the Ressel family seeking help from the Scott County Court.
The Ressels have a paper which went along with their abstract when they bought the farm, signed by a previous county commission stating it is a county road and that the county would maintain this road since the interstate cut this particular road into when the interstate was constructed. Now the bridge crossing the ditch which carries all the north end of the county's water washed away in December 1990.
The commissioners do not want to honor this document to build a bridge. The Ressels should not have to pay an attorney to get a hearing before a circuit judge which two of the commissioners are telling them to do. The commissioners were voted in to make the decision of the county's bridges and roads. Can't they stand on their own two feet? Why do we have them in office? For the $20,000 plus salary they make a year, and not do anything, we could construct a bridge with a years salary of these two commissioners.
Thanks to Joe Spalding of Benton who made a motion to build the bridge. Wait until election time comes to see if the other two and the prosecuting attorney get reelected.
