Bond effort was learning experience

Christopher W. Feeney's statement that "Mark is ignorant" was inappropriate. I find it admirable that Mark Strickert gave his time to benefit the future students of Jackson High School. Through Mark's hard work on the bond issue, he is not ignorant of the sacrifice of taxpayers. Rather, he is well-educated.

Feeney said the music department was the only inadequate facility at JHS. The music department is in dire need of new facilities. However, I find it hard to believe that, after taking his tour, Feeney thought the facilities of our physical education, agricultural, business, special services and art programs were adequate.

Thanks to grants, we are fortunate our business department has technology to keep up with the times. However, all this technology is on the third floor of a 50-plus-year-old building, because there is no other place for it. In C building, wires hang from the ceiling because the building is not architecturally sound for such technology. Students, teachers and parents trip every day on the bubbled-up carpet that can't be replaced. This causes safety hazards, because this building houses our auditorium, where many events take place in the only performance venue for our school.

Teachers have done an outstanding job using the facilities given to them.

They have encouraged students to reach goals that have gained local, state and national recognition.

Jackson's efforts should be rewarded.

Thank you to Mark and countless others who tried to create a better atmosphere for future students.
