As president of the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents, I would like to express my appreciation to Gov. Matt Blunt for his support of an increase in higher-education funding. In his recommendations to the state legislature, Governor Blunt is requesting a $17.1 million increase in funding, which equates to approximately $850,000 for Southeast. This increase will allow our university to continue being the least expensive four-year regional comprehensive university in Missouri.

It is satisfying to have a governor who recognizes the importance of higher education to the future of our state. I hope the Missouri General Assembly will support his recommendation, which will assist Southeast in continuing to provide access to quality higher education at a reasonable cost.
