To the editor: A recent article, "Constitutional amendment banning flag burning passes GOP-led House," said the White House supports the amendment. I agree that burning or desecrating the U.S. flag should be prohibited by law. The argument that a ban on burning the flag would interfere with the principle of free speech is nonsense. There are plenty of other ways for citizens to voice their opposition to government...

A recent article, "Constitutional amendment banning flag burning passes GOP-led House," said the White House supports the amendment. I agree that burning or desecrating the U.S. flag should be prohibited by law.

The argument that a ban on burning the flag would interfere with the principle of free speech is nonsense. There are plenty of other ways for citizens to voice their opposition to government.

What would a person think of a supposed Christian who disgraced the cross of Christ, the sacred symbol of Christianity? In a sense, our nation's flag represents what we hold dear as Americans and is sacred to us.

Millions throughout our history have fought for what that banner represents. Thousands have made the supreme sacrifice with their lives.

You who are inclined to sanction the burning of our flag in protest should use common sense and show the respect due our flag.
