American Education Week falls between Veterans Day and Thanksgiving. It is an appropriate time to pay tribute to those who serve diligently to meet the educational needs in our community.

Following World War I, the American Legion and the National Education Association collaborated to address growing concerns of literacy and fitness. Since December of 1921, when the first American Education Week was observed, a host of other organizations have joined in co-sponsoring efforts to bring attention to the accomplishments of public education in our community.
