Cape Girardeau seems to have sprouted much more local talent this summer than in years past, and this weekend you have a chance to attend "Dancing with Show Me Stars" on Saturday, along with the opportunity to see nearly 40 local and touring artists in one location as part of Fawkesfest in downtown Cape Girardeau through Sunday. We also have one of Southeast Missouri's favorite small-town carnivals, Homecomers, continuing through Saturday evening in Uptown Jackson and is sure to satisfy thrill-seekers and the occasional sweet tooth. Also on Saturday night, round up your friends and family and head to downtown Cape Girardeau to support a good cause: Crawlin' for Cellus.
According to earlier reporting, this year's "Dancing with Show Me Stars" Saturday at Drury Plaza Hotel Cape Girardeau Conference Center will feature nationally known choreographers and dancers Dmitry and Jenya Chaplin and Anna Trebunskaya from ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." Trebunskaya's partner, Oleksandr Kamnieb, also will be in attendance.
Thirteen local stars will perform Saturday and there will be three winners of the night: one winner chosen by the judges for technicality and performance, an audience choice winner who receives the most votes during the evening and the overall winner who raises the most money for the cause.
One hundred percent of proceeds from the event will benefit the Community Caring Council to provide financial assistance to people who are experiencing a housing crisis within the council's service areas.
How much: Individual tickets are $80; couple tickets are $150; tables of 10 are $725 More information can be found on the event's Facebook page.
The annual Homecomers celebration continues in Uptown Jackson through Saturday with food, amusement rides and musical performances.
Twelve to 15 carnival rides are part of the event, Homecomers chairman Larry Koehler said, along with a variety of food and beer vendors.
