Tywappity Tales

>River City Players Community Theatre will produce two shows during the months of June and July.

Life, with its glories, indiginities, hopes and quiet dreams, is the subject of The River City Players Community Theatre's next production. The World Goes 'Round: The Songs of Kander & Ebb fills the audience with humor, romance, drama, nonstop melody and brassy, insightful lyrics, celebrating life and the fighting spirit that keeps us all going. The production runs June 17-18 and June 22-25 at the River City Yacht Club in Port Cape.

According to Christine Beardslee, show director, the show was chosen because of the musical variety contained in the production. "The music that John Kander and Fred Ebb wrote was so fun and wonderful for their audiences to experience," Beardslee says. "Many of their shows went on to Broadway and to win Tony Awards. Some of the more familiar shows they've written include Cabaret, Chicago, Kiss of the Spider Woman, and more.

"We have a very talented cast with a variety of music and comedic talents," comments Beardslee. "It's going to be exciting to see the show develop through their creativity during the next month."

The cast includes: Pam Bell, Megan Edmonds, Regina Hagen, Kathy Heckman, Bryan Parker, Curtis Prichard, Michelle Prichard, Blake Russell, and Kyle VanPool.

"We are working to create a very unique, fun, and pleasing show for our audiences," Beardslee says. "Choreographer Megan Edmonds has done a wonderful job with making each number different and memorable for the the cast to perform and the audience to enjoy."

On July 4, Tywappity Tales will be presented as part of Cape Girardeau's LibertyFest celebration at Port Cape Girardeau. Written and Directed by Dr. Roseanna Whitlow, the show is a performance of Native American stories by a youth cast.

The script to Tywappity Tales was compiled from stories written by Allan Hinchey and collected and printed during the 1930s in the Southeast Missourian. The show will have two 20-minute performances at Port Cape Girardeau's Captain's Quarters. Performances start at 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

Open auditions for the show will be held June 13 at 6:00 pm at Port Cape Girardeau.

Following at 7:30 pm at the Southeast Missouri Arts Council Gallery will be Southeast StorySwap. Everyone young or old is invited to share a true story or tall tale with the Story Swap storytellers.
