Relations: Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus, who are second cousins, were both born in Columbus, Ohio. Third member Joe Don Rooney was born in Baxter Springs, Kan., and grew up in Picher, Okla. DeMarcus and Rooney met playing in Chely Wright's band.

Critics: They attacked Rascal Flatts in the beginning as the country version of a "boy band." One critic called them "suburban cowboys."
