Ticket sales begin today for both Southeast Missouri State University's 2005-2006 Department of Theatre and Dance and Southeast Missouri Symphony Orchestra seasons.
A variety of productions will be offered by the university's theater and dance department in the upcoming year. They include:
* "Trojan Women," the classic tragedy by Euripides, opening the season Sept. 30. This play depicts the women of Troy as they wait to be turned over to the Greeks after the Trojan War and is directed by Robert Dillon Jr.
* "Art," the award-winning contemporary comedy by French playwright Yasmina Reza, opening Oct. 25. The three-man play explores the themes of both art and friendship and is directed by Dennis Seyer.
* Fall Dance Concert, opening on Nov. 11. The concert will feature choreography by faculty and performances by both faculty and students.
* "The Tender Land," an American opera by Aaron Copeland opening Feb. 22. Set in the American Midwest during the Great Depression, this will be the university's musical offering, rounded out with a full pit orchestra.
* Spring Dance Concert, showcasing senior dance students, opening March 9.
* "Romeo and Juliet," the classic William Shakespeare play, will finish out the season on April 22, directed by Dr. Kenn Stilson.
The Symphony Orchestra's Commerce Bank Subscription Series will include:
* "Encore! With Judith Farris," which will open the season Oct. 4. The program will feature classical music and Broadway tunes, with Judith Farris joining the orchestra for the second half of the concert.
* Organ Concerto, by Francis Poulenc, performed by the chamber orchestra featuring Dr. Gary Miller on organ. The performance will take place Oct. 25 at Old St. Vincent's Church.
* "Festive Choral Works," the first University Choir/Choral Union concert of the season on Nov. 29.
* Beethoven's Symphony No. 1, featuring the winners of the concerto and aria competition will be performed March 14
* Requiem, by Mozart will be performed May 2. The concert will celebrate the 250th anniversary of the great composer's birth and will feature the choir and choral union.
Tickets for all shows are available at the box office at 651-2265, with season tickets available at a discount until Sept. 23.
