Combine a classical guitarist who wears leather pants, a vocalist and another guitarist who both champion early '90s grunge along with motion-picture theme songs from "Top Gun" to "Aladdin," and a down-home drummer from The Hill and the result will be Cape's newest band, The Super Happy Intelligence Team (S.H.I.T.).
Maybe the first "fun" group in the area, their formation is ironic when you consider the superior talent every member has. Guitarist Gabe Deutsch, the spunky one with the leather pants, has long studied classical guitar. It's bound to show through during live sets when classical interludes squeeze themselves in between the pop classics and alternative covers.
The other guitarist, Grant St. George (the last name of whom all women want) switches up guitar and bass with Deutsch. His technical skills on the guitar compare easily to that of any grunge virtuoso. And another crowd-forming feature: He's constantly poked fun at for his dashingly good looks (which he tries unsuccessfully to rid himself of by appearing constantly unkempt).
S.H.I.T.'s predicted hallmark will be their quality performance of amusing (and vintage) songs that don't get enough attention by cover bands. Come see them for the entertainment and the unique experience they're going to serve up.
"We're not very good," says vocalist Patrick Sullivan, "but we're a lot of fun."
I say, never trust an artist. S.H.I.T. is good and fun.
