Southeast Missouri State University students will exhibit their talent in the annual Class Voice III Recital at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Shuck Music Recital Hall at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus.
Judith Farris, artist in residence and vocal director in the Department of Theatre and Dance, said the free recital will be given by 12 of her most advanced singers.
"The audience is able to see the performers' eyes -- the mirror of the soul," Farris said. "In this intimate setting, the singers can see their audience as well, so we are grateful when every seat is filled. This year's vocal performers from this advanced voice class will display the skills they have learned in a course on advanced vocal technique and principles for performing."
The repertoire of the recital will consist of more traditional, well-known pieces of early Broadway musicals, including "Camelot," "Little Women," "Cinderella" and "Carousel," and a few contemporary works from "Les Miserables," "Bridges of Madison County," "Sister Act," "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Vanities," among others.
"These performers, as I always say, might be some of our future Broadway stars. Those who attend can then have the pleasure of saying, 'I heard them back when. ...' This recital began as a way for me to give back to the community. It has become a favorite of our audiences because it gives them the opportunity to hear theater students in this more up-close-and-personal format in the beautiful recital hall," Farris said.
