Signature Chefs Auction to benefit March of Dimes

The March of Dimes of Southeast Missouri will offer a culinary experience at its Signature Chefs Auction on Thursday.

The auction is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Plaza By Ray's, 3257 William St.

Beth Simmons, division director of the March of Dimes of Southeast Missouri, said four teams of chefs will prepare the meals for a silent auction.

"Participants will be able to sample their dishes and bid on the one they like best," Simmons said. "Each team will have a bowl for money to be dropped into, and the team that collects the most money will be named the Top Chef Group."

Meals will include salad and bread from Bella Italia and dessert from Hoeckele's Bakery in Perryville, Mo., Simmons said.

The silent auction of meals will be followed by a live auction that includes a romantic getaway to Hot Springs, Ark., a two-night stay at Big Cedar Lodge in Branson, Mo., Missouri Tigers men's basketball tickets, 2014 St. Louis Cardinals baseball tickets with hotel stays and many other items.

Simmons also said chef's packages will be up for bid during the live auction.

"The Smokin Brothers, one of our teams, will be offering a backyard barbecue party for 20 people," she said. "That includes a keg of beer donated by River Eagle Distributing."

All proceeds from the auction will go to the March of Dimes, Simmons said.

"The teams of chefs are all donating their time and effort," she said. "We're also very appreciative of the community support shown to the March of Dimes. We invite everyone to come to the auction for a great meal and a great cause."
