Breanna Bright, a candidate for a master's degree in English at Southeast Missouri State University, has published her first novel, "In the End," with the internationally acclaimed Permuted Press.
Bright, born and raised in Sedgewickville, Missouri, has been writing since she was 13 and is enrolled in the Department of English, seeking her masters in professional writing. She received a bachelor's degree in English with a writing option from Southeast in 2012.
Bright said: "I was at first confused when I received the letter from Permuted, because I was expecting another rejection. I had my sister's boyfriend read it to me because I couldn't comprehend what the acceptance letter was saying. Then I was, of course, ecstatic.
"Permuted Press' staff was great to work with, very professional yet personal, and they gave me an advance payment. It was a good experience to publish with them," Bright said.
The novel is a paranormal horror story. Main characters Thursday and Alice unknowingly buy a haunted house, and the shadows of their new home hide a sinister existence. Something is watching, and waiting ... something so powerful that death itself will attempt to intervene to stop it.
But defeat will come with a price. When Thursday dies, he must find a way to return to the real world and save Alice from the creature haunting the home. Yet Thursday's crossing could mean the end of the world.
Bright has finished the sequel to "In the End," which in 2015 also will be published by Permuted Press. She has almost finished the third novel in the series. After that, she said, she'll be moving on to other projects, such as her next novel.
"In the End" is available at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.
Bright also wrote "Paper Lanterns" from Mouse Tales Press and has published a short story in Journey titled "One." Her play "Something Like Magic" was a finalist in Scriptapalooza, a national screenwriting contest that introduces new screenwriters to producers and agents.
