Roses for Mildred
(in memory of my beloved grandmother)
by Jason Kesterson
Let us plant roses for Mildred,
In hues of Amazing Grace,
Scents of wisdom and remembrance
A grand garden of blooming hymns
Let us create from our tears
Giant statues of brick and stone
To protect our labour from all
Weather.
To make certain that through
Rain, snow, and drought,
Her garden remains strong,
Vibrant and alive with her
Majesty
Even when October leaves fail
Their hosts and spiral to earth,
May her roses remain untainted.
Let Mildred's smile be reflected
From every petal,
And her laughter and voice drift
Among us,
In the tune of Amazing Grace
Let us hold our memories of her
In the palms of our hands,
As she now is holding in her
Hands the blossoms of Heaven
So let us hear her laughter,
Her words, her wisdom, her intellect,
May her strength be our strength,
May we smile her smile,
And may our hearts be the drive of
Our labour,
So let us feel blessed by the privilege
To have known such a spirit,
And let us plant roses for Mildred.
