Here are the 10 songs "from the ancient days of rock 'n' roll" Dennis Depro of Cape Girardeau wouldn't want to live without:

1. "That'll Be the Day" -- Buddy Holly and the Crickets (1957)

Here's Buddy with one of his best. John Wayne's quote "That'll be the day" came from the movie "The Searchers" (1956).

2. "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You" -- Elvis Presley

One of his best from his pre-Army years (1955-58).

3. "Be-Bop-A-Lula" -- Gene Vincent

Early rock 'n' roll at its breathy best.

4. "Summertime Blues" -- Eddie Cochran (1958)

Teenage anthem of the '50s.

5. "Sleep Walk" -- Santo and Johnny (1959)

My favorite pop-rock instrumental of all time!

6. "Long Tall Sally" -- Little Richard (1956)

Another "King" of rock 'n' roll. He can still rock today.

7. "Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On" -- Jerry Lee Lewis (1957)

His pumpin' piano and antics are well known.

8. "Sixteen Candles" -- The Crests (1959)

Doo-wop ode to teenage love in the 1950s.

9. "Sweet Little Sixteen" -- Chuck Berry (1958)

From St. Louis, one of the founders of rock 'n' roll. This is one of my favorites of his many hits.

10. "Lonely Saturday Night" -- Don French (1959)

I had to sneak in an obscure song from my high school days. Here is a rockabilly ballad that says it all.
