These are the 10 songs Teri Wondra of Cape Girardeau wouldn't want to live without:
1. "Bluebird" -- David Morgan (boka4u2@aol.com) I included this song in the Christmas gift I gave my kids. It says what I want for them most: "Get the one degree above the Ph.D. that teaches how to get up when you fall/I just want you to fly with the bluebird of happiness/cry a little less than you smile/try to stay centered and love yourself/then when twilight kisses the sun goodnite/truth starts to shimmer like a neon light/it was all worthwhile É"
2. "God Is In" -- Billy Jonas (www.billyjonas.com) Truly a songsmith. Most energy producing concert I have ever been at. Much play on words about all the details and spaces that God is in when we pay attention, or not, in life.
3. "Home Away from Home Again" -- Chuck Brodsky (red house records 800-695-4687) This song thanks the "folk angels" who open their home to the traveling artists who play music around the world, away from their own bed, months at a time: "You left a note where you knew I'd see it/there's food in the oven/I only have to heat it up/whatever's in the fridge -- I should help myself and eat it up É"
4. "Ariania" -- Don Conoscenti (www.donconoscenti.com) Two women on a road trip and Ariania phones her partner, who hears the growth inspired from wearing those traveling shoes: "She's quotin' Kerouac and the Dalai Lama too/said the stars out here are so bright they're drowning out the moon É"
5. "Whiskey" -- Bill Passalacqua (www.billpassalacqua.com) Humor twists within the music of Bill Passalacqua: "Do not drive on snowy streets/that is where fools meet É /then when you get bored or friskey/just relax and have some whiskey É"
6. "Mercury's Wings" -- Karen Mal (www.karenmal.com) in memory of her friend, Fred. "He wore shoes with no laces/said it bought him time/a few extra minutes twice a day/he ran fast/he ran hard/he had Mercury's wings/he ran out of time anyway É"
7. "Judgment Day" -- Jim Savarino (jimsavarino@attbi.com)God invites him home, brings out the popcorn and a video to revisit a life well lived. "You weren't the smartest man I made/but you sure did have persistence É"
8. "Traveler's Code" -- Darryl Purpose (www.darrylpurpose.com/store.htm)A "We are all in this together" song. "Follow the light when the woods become thick É /cause that light is love ..."
9. "I and Thou" - David MorganAfter time of being partners, priorities get mixed up, and to remember the gift of love, changes in attitudes are the saving grace. "A little less of me and mine/a little more of thee and thine/a little less I demand from you/a little more I have for theeÉ"
10. "Seasons of Love" -- Jonathan Larson (2/4/60 -- 1/25/96)
Jonathan Larson died the day his play, Rent, opened in New York. His message to celebrate all the moments in your life lives on. "Five-hundred-twenty-five-thousand-six-hundred minutes É /how do you measure a year?/in daylights/in sunsets/in midnights/in cups of coffee/in inches/in miles/in laughter/in strife É /how about love?/measure in love."
