These are the 10 songs Evelyn Boardman of Cape Girardeau wouldn't want to live without:
1. "Yankee Lady" -- Jesse Winchester
Winchester is a great songwriter with subtle, genteel lyrics and a quirky guitar style. He is my very favorite recording artist.
2. "I Will Always Love You" -- Whitney Houston
Whitney's voice and the theme from the movie "Bodyguard" are a perfect combination of voice and message.
3. "Graceland" -- Paul Simon.
I like almost everything by this guy, but I think "Graceland" is Simon at his finest.
4. "18th Variation of Theme from Paganini" -- Rachmaninov
You hear it once and it haunts you for life.
5. "Me and Bobby McGee" -- Janis Joplin
Joplin represents an era. This is probably is her signature song. I never get tired of listening to it.
6. "Streets of Philadelphia" -- Bruce Springsteen
I like Springsteen and I particularly like his voice on this song.
7. "La Vie En Rose" -- Edith Piaf
The little "sparrow" with her waif style and trilling voice reminds me of the time I spent in Paris.
8. "Wind Beneath My Wings" -- B.J. Thomas
One of those songs that makes you think you know who it's written about. Thomas's mellow delivery is first rate.
9. "Malaguena" -- Placido Domingo
Creme de la creme!
10. "Walkin' After Midnight" -- Patsy Cline
I saw her on a USO tour and she brought the house down with this song.
