The Arts Council of Southeast Missouri announces two new exhibits, "Fractured Memory Paintings" by Bridget Parris in Gallery 100, and "Works from the Basement" by Mark Rospenda in the Lorimier Gallery.
Bridget Parris' paintings depict dreams and memories through the use of the figure and interior. Her colorful oil on panel pieces present images of childhood recollections. "I am concerned with the way in which memories are distorted through time, and how they can effect the present," she states.
Mark Rospenda utilizes a variety of media, such as collage, woodcut prints, charcoal and oil to depict the barrage of sights and sounds of life in a big city. His work ranges from abstracted painting to figurative sculpture. He plans to auction the pieces in his exhibit and donate the profits to the American Red Cross September 11th relief efforts.
Both exhibits are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9am - 5pm or by appointment. Featured exhibits will be on display through November 30. The Lorimier Gallery is located at 119 Independence Street in downtown Cape. For more information contact the Arts Council, at 573-334-9233.
