New Year's Eve isn't just for alcohol-fueled revelry.

In St. Louis, families can get in on the celebration, too.

Since 1992, St. Louis has been celebrating New Year's Eve in a way that adults and children can enjoy with First Night. Organizers call First Night a time to "dance, play, act, create and sing our way into the New Year!"

A big part of First Night's fun is artistic expression, starting with a musical procession at 5:30 p.m. in which those in attendance become part of a huge kazoo band, the First Night Community Kazoo Corps.

The action starts at Grand and Delmar boulevards. After the opening procession the music begins, with bands and DJs performing on Grand Boulevard and dancers, drum lines and other acts in front of the Fabulous Fox Theatre.

Meanwhile, art installations are set up in front of the Grandel Theatre and on the south side of Powell Symphony Hall. Other stages feature performances, demonstrations and activities.

And it all ends with a big midnight fireworks display.

First Night is alcohol-free. Admission is $8 for adults and $4 for children. For more infirmation, visit grandcenter.org/firstnight or call 314-289-8121.
