The Garden Gallery in Cape Girardeau has been showing art since 2003, and it will continue to do so from its new home in the same building.

In order to accommodate Howard's Sporting Goods, which moved into the front portion of the main floor of the building, Linda Bohnsack, owner of Garden Gallery, was forced to move the gallery to a new suite in the building at 835 Broadway.

The move will have no major effect on the gallery, and Bohnsack said she still plans to be part of the First Friday Art Walk on Friday with viewing hours from noon until 9 p.m. The move only limits access. The gallery entrance is now at the back of the building.

Bohnsack said she sees the First Friday Art Walks as a way to showcase not just local artists, but artists from all over the United States.

"We are doing our best to support each other as galleries," Bohnsack said.

Bohnsack said her gallery features more than just art. It has signed crafts and gifts, and art from the Best Of Missouri Hands, a not-for-profit organization that represents artists throughout Missouri.

"We are helping artists to promote themselves," Bohnsack said, "Making sure they get what is best for their talent."

As part of the Frist Friday Art Walk, the Garden Gallery will be hosting a drawing for a $75 gift card for the February ARound Town Gallery Giveaway.

The gallery giveaway started in October. Galleries hand out cards and participants get a stamp at each gallery they visit. When the card is full, it can be dropped off to any of the participating galleries and is entered into a drawing to win a piece of art or gift card from a different gallery each month.

"March is a good time for art," Bohnsack said. "Good time for people to get back out. [The Art Walk] is a way for people to get out and make a night of it."
