Being that this is a "back to school" edition of Off and also that many of you are new to the area, what better way to contribute to your C.G. experience than the Kill Your T.V. Guide to Cape Girardeau. Many of you, as I mentioned earlier are newbies to the area. Freshmen and transfers, we welcome you all. I am not from Cape but have lived here just about 4 years. In those 4 years I have learned a lot about C.G. and ways to entertain oneself.

There are a few main driving arteries in Cape. On Broadway, Kingshighway, Route K/William, Sprigg, Independence, and Mt. Auburn you will find most of what you need and can get almost anywhere using these streets.

If you want the best authentic Mexican food, coupled with a great atmosphere, there is one place and one place only. El Torero! I highly recommend the chicken quesadillas or dinner combo number one with cheese enchiladas instead of beef. For those of you of legal consumption age, imagine drinking 32 ounces of your favorite brew in glasses so big they make anyone feel like medieval royalty. Argh where's me wench. Oh wait, that's a pirate. If excellent dine-in or take-out Chinese cuisine is more your taste, hit Chan's Restaurant up on North Kingshighway. Its very good, very clean, and a has that peaceful Zen like thing going for it. Mr. Chan is a very nice man who cooks many of the dishes himself. Either way, please don't be an ignorant bigot who makes fun of the native language and tries to make your self look better by ordering in sarcastic accent.

With football season approaching, the best place to catch a game is undoubtedly at the residence of whoever has the biggest screen, the most comfortable seating, or both. In the event of a tie, rotate evenly. A while back there was a cool place to catch MNF, but it no longer exists. I could blow smoke and jock some place that doesn't deserve it but until proven otherwise there is no place like home.

Friday nights don't stay home. Stop by Jeremiahs, say hello to Steve Sullivan and Scooter, have a cold one, mingle, and if you feel like dancing walk up the steps. Cape has a bar for everyone. From a hole in the wall for a hideaway to a voyeurs dream, you'll find it.

Traditionally, the destination after a night of bar hopping or dancing is Taco Bell. As soon as you get run from downtown, the Bell is the best bet. Just remember, it's the five packets of hot sauce that make it burn on the way back up. I prefer a glass of water, and four Advil to accompany my late night snack on nights like that.

You will hear people complain that there is never anything to do around here as in any other small town, but like Dave Matthews said it's not where but who you're with that really matters.
