"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" will make an appearance next week at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus.
Earl and Margie Holland, for whom the Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts is named, selected this production as their choice event this season at the River Campus, according to a news release from Southeast.
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" is a family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel's favorite son, his 11 brothers and the coat of many colors, the release states. The first collaboration of composer Andrew Lloyd Webber ("Jesus Christ Superstar," "Phantom of the Opera" and "Cats") and lyricist Tim Rice ("Jesus Christ Superstar" and "The Lion King"), "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" blends pop, country and rock into an uplifting story.
"There was something more than luck behind our getting this show to Cape Girardeau. It was an on-again, off-again affair, mostly because several different national Broadway tours kept moving on the calendar. It was like a terrible game of dominoes," said Bob Cerchio, assistant director of the Holland School. "But the agent and I persevered, and eventually we were able to bring one of the most popular Broadway shows ever to the Bedell Performance Hall."
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bedell Performance Hall on the River Campus.
Tickets may be purchased by contacting the River Campus box office in the Cultural Arts Center, 518 S. Fountain St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, by calling (573) 651-2265 or online at www.RiverCampusEvents.com.
