Known as America's original jazz dance company, Giordano Dance Chicago will bring its jazz repertoire to Bedell Performance Hall at Southeast Missouri State University's River Campus at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Celebrating its 51st season, Giordano Dance Chicago creates jazz dance choreography and has performed around the country and internationally.
"Having seen this company develop over many years, I can tell you they are in fine form today," said Bob Cerchio, assistant director of Southeast's Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts. "Reminiscent of some of the hottest jazz dance companies, Giordano still has a distinctive style of its own, so much so that this performance is part of the Midwest conference for the American College Dance Association. I can't imagine having a more exciting evening than when you have fantastic dancers performing for fantastic dance students."
Situated in the heart of downtown Chicago, Giordano Dance Chicago began in 1963 as Dance Incorporated Chicago and became the Giordano Dance Chicago in 1966 when many of its live performances were broadcast by Chicago's public television station, WTTW.
It participates in philanthropy and helps diverse and underserved communities through outreach programs and activities.
Tickets may be purchased at the River Campus box office in the Cultural Arts Center, 518 S. Fountain St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays; by phone at 651-2265 or online at RiverCampusEvents.com.
