Fourth of July activites

July 4th celebration

The Jackson celebration includes a car show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Art in the Park, food stands and pony rides beginning at 10 a.m., Dance Extensions will perform at 2 p.m., Saxy Jazz Transition will perform at the bandshell at 7 p.m. and the Jackson Municipal Band will perform at the bandshell at 8 p.m. Fireworks display will be at 9:30 p.m.

Arena Park Fourth of July celebration

A double elimination washer tournament begins the festivities at noon. Registration for the tournament will start at 11 a.m. Booths inside the Arena Building will also open at noon. A children's corner for watching cartoons and cooling off will be set up by the Optimist Club, with a big-screen television donated by Shivelbine's. The demolition derby will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a special patriotic tribute. A fireworks show will conclude the event after dark.

Fourth at the Fort -- Living History

The Turner Brigade (Civil War re-enactors) and participants from Civil War Roundtable of Cape Girardeau will re-enact Civil War camp life, rifle loading/firing, artilletry drill/firing, and ladies fashions. There will also be hands-on drill experiences for visitors.
