Jackson
The City of Jackson will celebrate Independence Day with festivities in the park. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the car show will be in Jackson Main Park. At 11 a.m. food stands and pony rides open along with Art in the Park. The Dance Extensions will perform on the tennis courts at 2 p.m. and Saxy Jazz plays at 7 p.m. before the Jackson Muny Band starts at and the fireworks go off at 9:30. Admission to all is free.
Cape Girardeau
The Sons of the American Revolution and their historical flag collection will be at the Red House to display their collection of 27 American flags, dating from June 14, 1777, through 2008. A living history will be held at Fort D from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with local members of the Turner Brigade.
Perryville, Mo.
The "Spirit of America" will fill the air at Perryville City Park on Independence Day. Fireworks will begin at dark.
Oran, Mo.
The 97th annual Fourth of July Picnic in Oran will be Friday, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. A buffet dinner, dancing to live music, the Miss Fourth of July Pageant and turtle races only scratch the surface of this one-day festival. The day begins at 11 a.m. and the fireworks end the festivities at 10 p.m.
New Madrid, Mo.
Fireworks on the Riverfront with music starting at 7 p.m. Games will be set up for children to enjoy. The national anthem will be sung around 9 p.m. and fireworks will follow. For more information, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 573-748-5300.
