In staying true to the grand tradition of Disney and Pixar, this animated film targets all generations. There is plenty of slapstick humor, which the children seemed to find hilarious. However, there is a lot of thoughtful, situational comedy, too, which seems to appeal more to teens and adults.

More importantly, the central story is a virtually universal theme of compassion, thankfulness and acceptance. Almost everyone can sympathize with someone who has lost his or her way, literally, spiritually or both. Furthermore, the trials of making friends, losing them and then being reunited, brings tears to the eyes of audience members young and old.

Putting the story aside, the computer effects are terrific (the pavement looks real) and the music not only enlivens the scenes but also reinforces the storyline. The out-takes after the movie are hilarious and so was the extra scene after the credits!

Four stars (out of four)

If there was an award for best family movie of the summer, this one is it.

The graphics were beyond my expectations, and the storyline had a lesson for all to learn. With voices of Owen Wilson, Helen Hunt, Paul Newman, George Carlin and many more you'll recognize, you can't help but be drawn in.

Even my 17-year-old son enjoyed the movie more than he thought he would. As you will see, Speed McQueen has quite an ego and soon finds himself lost on Route 66 while trying to get to the big race in California. He ends up in a small town of Carburetor Springs. Getting into still more trouble, he finds out what true friendship and team work is really about. A good first date movie.
