They are taken to live with their closest relative, the evil Count Olaf. Jim Carrey is wonderful as the over-the-top, eccentric villain. Humor is graciously mixed in amongst the unfortunate events, provided by Sunny, who speaks only in subtitles, and Count Olaf's Carrey-esque exaggerations.

The ongoing humor thread between Olaf and Sunny about the infant being a primate is one of the funnier moments in the movie.

Easily one of the most enjoyable films I have seen in a while.
