Let me say right off the bat that I am NOT a fan of teen movies. However, I found myself pleasantly surprised by "Blue Crush."
It is hard to find a quality movie showing that young women can be athletic AND pretty without being complete idiots. And the surfing scenes are almost breathtaking! The soundtrack has a chance at becoming a best-seller, too.
I have a problem with the plot because it has the main character, Anne Marie, forgetting about her training for the Pipe Masters when she meets and falls for quarterback Matt. However, after some prodding from her two friends and Matt, she overcomes her fears and qualifies for the competition.
The girls are scantily clad in bikinis and most of the guys are as large as houses, but there is still something for everyone (between the ages of 13 and 20) in this movie.

I LOVE movies, even movies I wouldn't of my own accord choose to see based upon the title. After attending the teen chick-flick surfer movie "Blue Crush" with most of my family and a few others in the theater, I still LOVE movies.
It is doubtful any of the principals in this movie will be nominated for acting awards. However, if you are looking for a place to mindlessly bury yourself on a lazy Saturday afternoon, "Blue Crush" is a good place to do it, even if you're a Baby Boomer. Seeing the movie will help you better understand your teenagers.
The movie is set against is some gorgeous Hawaiian scenery. The storyline is, as my wife put it, somewhere between "Pretty Woman" and "Top Gun."

I wasn't surprised or disappointed with "Blue Crush." However, I didn't go into it expecting a great movie.
The main character, Anne Marie, is training for a surfing competition, playing mom to her little sister, working as a maid at a hotel and falling for an NFL quarterback.
The training aspect is believable. The movie opens with Anne Marie running on the beach and doing pull-ups and sit-ups. But I didn't believe at all that a NFL quarterback would even give a second glance at a twenty-something-year-old maid and ask her for surfing lessons. Give me a break.
The acting wasn't too bad except when it came to surfer boys. On the plus side, the movie does have a happy ending. It also gives you a rush. Upon leaving, I heard some girls behind me say that now they want to go surfing.
